Boux Avenue’s New Sleepwear Has a Taste for Detail

Boux Avenue’s latest sleepwear shows how much difference a dot, a lace edge or a piped collar can make to a familiar short set. The details are doing more than simply finishing the garment.

Phoebe starts with ivory satin and black polka dots, then cuts through the sweetness with a broad panel of black eyelash lace. It runs across the cami and returns at the shorts hem, giving the set a much more lingerie-led feel. The lined cups, satin bows and adjustable straps keep the detail focused around the cami rather than spreading it across the whole look.

Several pieces here share satin, short hems and elasticated waists, but they do not all feel the same. Boux Avenue changes the effect through print, trim and construction, moving from shirt sets and chemises to a wired babydoll and softer ribbed options. Phoebe shows the difference most clearly because the lace is doing much more than acting as a trim.

The large polka-dot satin short pyjama set takes the same colour combination in a more traditional direction. The oversized dots sit on a short-sleeved, button-through shirt with black piping at the collar, cuffs and pocket. A small “sweet dreams” embroidery on the collar adds a little personality without competing with the print. This is the one to choose if you like Phoebe’s black-and-ivory contrast but prefer a classic shirt-and-shorts set.

Daisy’s dots are smaller, with plum set against pale pink and matching lace at the neckline and shorts hem. Cross-back adjustable straps give the cami a lighter feel than the shirt set, and the softer colour combination makes it much less graphic than Phoebe. The same dot pattern feels completely different once the scale, cut and trim change.

A collar can be as decorative as lace

The striped satin short set takes a more classic pyjama route. Pale-blue jacquard stripes are edged with pale-pink picot trim and piping, while covered satin buttons keep the shirt front neat. There is Bx embroidery on the pocket, as there is on the olive modal set later on, but here the piping, buttons and pocket detail give the top more definition. Deep side splits on the shorts keep the set from feeling too prim.

Kaya’s pale-blue cami set uses floral lace more sparingly, with a dark edge around the neckline and small satin bows. It is a good choice if you prefer the lace to sit around the edges rather than dominate the set.

The plum Daisy chemise goes simpler again. Lace traces the neckline and back, with a small bow at one side split. The rich plum colour gives it enough presence without needing a print.

Kaya’s dark green chemise takes the same lace and bow details into a richer colour. The adjustable straps and under-cup elastication give it a little more structure, while the short satin body and side splits keep it simple. Compared with the patterned sets, the dark green does most of the work.

When lingerie takes over

Zoe is where the edit moves properly into lingerie. Cream floral embroidery sits over the underwired balconette cups, with a loose mesh skirt falling underneath. Adjustable straps, a hook-and-eye fastening and a keyhole tie at the back give it more structure than the camis and chemises around it.

Zoe is doing a different job from the short pyjama sets. Choose it for the defined cups, embroidered mesh and lighter skirt. It is the most dressed-up piece here, but the embroidery and construction are enough without adding anything else.

When Satin Isn’t the Point

The bow ribbed short pyjama set is much more playful. Tiny ivory bows are scattered across the plum fabric, with picot elastic at the neckline and a larger contrast bow on the shorts. Compared with the satin pieces, it feels easier and less dressed-up, with the print doing most of the work.

The olive ribbed modal set is the most relaxed of the group. A short-sleeved revere shirt, dark piping and a chest pocket keep the familiar pyjama shape, but the ribbed fabric and muted green take away the shine of satin. The shorts have an elasticated waist with a tie, and the small Bx embroidery is enough. We would take this one for an easier, everyday option.

Our View

Boux Avenue gets the balance right by changing the details without losing the thread that runs through the collection. Phoebe’s black lace, the piped shirt sets, Zoe’s embroidered cups and the ribbed options all feel connected, but they give you genuinely different ways to wear the edit.

The best pieces are the ones where one detail does enough. Black lace gives the dots more bite, pale-pink picot trim lifts the striped shirt set, and the revere collar gives the olive ribbed set a more classic pyjama feel. Even the bow print works because it brings something lighter after the satin and mesh. The collection feels varied without looking thrown together.

Would We Buy It?

Phoebe is our first pick. The ivory dots and oversized black eyelash-lace panels make it the strongest piece in the edit. For classic pyjama dressing, we would choose the Large polka-dot shirt set over the softer Daisy cami because the piping gives the print a cleaner finish.

Zoe is the one to choose if you want something more lingerie-led, with defined cups and embroidered mesh. The olive Ribbed modal set is our everyday pick, with the revere collar and dark piping giving it just enough detail without making it feel dressed-up.
